Your social posts may be discovered through Google as well as inside their original apps. In its July 2026 announcement, Google introduced Search Console platform properties for Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube. These properties help creators understand discovery through Google Search and Discover. They complement the analytics provided by the social platforms.
Understand the scope
Google describes Performance, Insights and Achievements reporting for these properties. Performance includes clicks, impressions and ways to examine posts and queries. This data concerns Google discovery; it does not represent all views, watch time or recommendations inside a social app. Keep that distinction clear when reporting results to a team.
Check setup in the current interface
Google’s announcement directs users to add a property, select a supported platform and follow verification steps. Consult the linked announcement and current help documentation for availability and requirements. Use the official verification flow and read the permissions it requests. A website property and a platform property serve different reporting purposes.
Choose one question for your first review
Instead of exporting everything, start with a focused question such as “Which of our tutorials are people finding through Google?” Record the period, property and filters. Look for related queries and posts, then open the actual content to judge whether it answers the searcher’s need.
| Planning question | What to note |
|---|---|
| What topics are discovered? | Relevant posts and queries in the selected report |
| What answer does the post provide? | The visible explanation and missing context |
| What should we improve? | A specific clarification, demonstration or follow-up |
Compare like with like
Use comparable periods and record publishing activity or promotions that may affect the result. A newly published post has had less time to accumulate discovery than an older one. A change in the topic mix can also change the audience. Avoid treating a small movement in a short period as proof of a strategy’s effect.
Turn observations into editorial work
If a search question reveals a missing step, make that step clearer in a future tutorial. If viewers are finding an old answer, check that it remains accurate. If the discovered post serves a different audience than intended, revise the topic plan. These are editorial decisions informed by data, rather than automatic conclusions drawn from a chart.
Keep a compact measurement record
Maintain separate columns for Google discovery, in-app analytics and your chosen business outcome. Note each source’s definitions and dates. A click from Google, a social video view and an enquiry are different events. This record makes it easier to explain what you know, what remains uncertain and which improvement you will test next.
