A hashtag can label a post. It cannot make an unrelated post useful. For October 2026, start with the person you want to reach and the problem your post solves. Then decide whether a seasonal or event hashtag helps that person understand the content.
Start with three kinds of tags
Build a short candidate list. First, add a topic tag that describes what the post actually teaches, such as a recipe method or a skincare concern. Second, add a community tag that your audience already uses to discuss that topic. Third, add an event tag only if the post genuinely addresses the event and your audience observes or follows it. You do not need all three on every post.
For example, a food creator posting a tested low-waste meal can use a food or cooking community tag. An October event tag belongs only if the meal is genuinely tied to that event. A creator in Singapore should not assume a holiday in another country is local; check the region before writing the caption.
Check whether a trend is current in your market
TikTok Creative Center Trends lets you examine hashtags and other trends by market. Check the country, time window, and the type of videos using a candidate tag. A large number of posts does not prove the tag is right for your audience, and a trending label can change quickly. Save the date you checked it in your planning notes rather than presenting a trend as timeless fact.
Use the Creator Calendar to find an event by country and niche. Treat its suggested tags as ideas to verify, not proof that they are currently trending. Confirm the event's date and status with the organizer or an official source, especially when a holiday is regional, tentative, or observed on another day.
Write the post before choosing the hashtag
Draft a useful opening, the evidence or demonstration, and a clear takeaway. Then ask whether each tag accurately describes the finished post. Remove any tag that would mislead a viewer. A beauty creator might make a step-by-step look for an October celebration; a travel creator might explain how event-day opening hours affect a visit. Both can offer value without claiming to have discovered a viral tag.
Keep an experiment log for the rest of the month. For posts on similar topics, record which tags you used, the market, publication date, views or reach, watch behavior, saves, and meaningful comments. Those numbers cannot isolate the hashtag's effect from the topic, creative, and timing, but they can reveal which combinations deserve another test.
October checklist
Before publishing, confirm that the event is relevant to your audience, the country is right, the date is verified, and the hashtag describes the post. After publishing, review whether viewers engaged with the answer you gave. If a post underperforms, improve the idea or execution before adding more tags.
